Painting Warp
August 3 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm EDT
$35.00Bring your own warp to paint them with a brush. You may apply as many colors as you like or different shades of color or a combination of them on a warp. You will use MX reactive dye which is good for cotton, rayon, tencel, or bamboo. No experience necessary. You will learn how to paint warp in SAORI way which is free-style. If you want to paint weft yarn, make a skein in advance and bring it.
Each person will work on a table where you spread warp yarn on a plastic sheet. After painting them, you will wrap them with the plastic sheet and take them home wet. You have to leave them for 24 hours as they are. Set the color with hot water and solution, rinse them with water, and dry them in the shady place.
You need to prepare your materials in advance at home. You will enjoy weaving on the one-of-a-kind of warp which keeps you surprised while you weave. Mihoko will send you a video about the preparation. Please follow the instructions.
You are allowed to bring a couple of set of warp (for example, appx.20-50 ends per warp, 300-400 ends total and 4 meter long) or materials/ yarn upto 1lb.
It would be fun to make several small warp. If you combine a few of them together for a project, the warp threads dyed with different color s in different place would be in a warp. You may use one small painted warp with commercial solid dyed warp.
If you want to tie dye t-shirts, you are welcome to bring cotton t-shirts, too. We use the same dye methos.
Please wear painters’ clothes or an apron, proper shoes, gloves ( if you like your own), and bring plastic bags to take the dyed wet materials home safely.
